In 2021, Grow Watauga will be partnering with Western Youth Network (WYN), Hospitality House of Boone and the Hunger and Health Coalition to promote healthy eating through the "Grow Your Own Fresh Food" Series.

This series will involve planned, in-person activities at community gardens hosted by Grow Watauga's community partners, geared specifically at elementary and middle school aged youth. Themes and activities will vary on the month and season, with new programs designed to teach about the gardening process as it occurs throughout the year!

The Grow Your Own Fresh Food Series is designed to be fully accessible for underprivileged youth in the High Country area, with our first pilot program running from Jan 2021 to October 2021 (health safety permitting). Space is limited, so sign up early!

Some activities we are planning for 2021 include:

  • Setting up a Monarch Butterfly and pollinator gardens

  • Learning about composting

  • Caring for chickens

  • Growing a "Pizza Garden"

  • Take-Home Lettuce and Kale Bags

  • "Square Foot" Personal Gardens

  • And More!
